Starworks Motorsport with drivers Renger van der Zande and Alex Popow made it two in a row in both 2016 Prototype Challenge (PC) competition and in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. Winning the TOTAL Pole Award in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport ORECA FLM09, van der Zande joined Popow in leading four times for 101 laps. Van der Zande passed Stephen Simpson in the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports ORECA with 41 minutes remaining and led the rest of the way for his eighth career WeatherTech Championship victory.
Honda driver Pipo Derani passed Joao Barbosa for the lead one minute prior to the three-hour mark of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, giving the No. 2 Tequila Patrón ESM Honda Ligier JS P2 a five-point bonus towards the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup.
Entering the race tied for the lead in the completion among the four classic endurance races on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Tequila Patrón ESM now holds a one-point lead over Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Mustang Sampling Corvette DP, 31-30.

Van Overbeek led the 15-minute session with a track record lap of 1:35.207 (128.5 mph) on the newly repaved 3.4-mile circuit.

Richard Westbrook earned the headline-grabbing Ford GT its first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole position Saturday, shattering the previous GTLM track record at the newly repaved 3.4-mile Watkins Glen International Circuit with a best lap of 1 minute, 41.301 seconds (120.8 mph) in the No. 67 Ford. The previous GTLM record was a 1:44.084 (117.6 mph) set by Andy Priaulx with BMW Team RLL in 2014.

A capacity crowd at the Corning Museum of Glass was treated to a celebratory evening of tributes, shout-outs, slide shows and interviews on Thursday as the International Motor Racing Research Center presented the Cameron R. Argetsinger Award to racing icon Roger Penske.
