When Colin Thompson was deciding what team to race for, it wasn’t a phone call from the team owner that helped him make his decision. Instead, it was the countless calls from drivers who had previously raced for the team that got Thompson thinking about signing with Kelly-Moss Road and Race.
And two years later, he was adding a second championship trophy to his mantle on his way to being picked up as a factory shoe.
Jake Eidson has secured a full-season drive in the 2017 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, in part through the expanded IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Cup Scholarship from the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and supported by Porsche and Yokohama.
Eidson, 21, from Littleton, Colorado, will begin the 2017 season March 15-17 at Sebring International Raceway during the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida event week. He will drive in the Platinum Cup class for defending Platinum Cup Team Champions Kelly-Moss Road and Race.
The world’s most prolific racecar manufacturer, Porsche, has begun making deliveries of the newest iteration of the world’s best-selling racer, the 911 GT3 Cup. Teams in IMSA’s one-make Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama are among the first in the world to have the new rear-engine racer arrive at their race shops courtesy of Porsche Motorsport North America (PMNA).
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (August 5, 2016) – The 2017 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama will feature 16 rounds at some of the most challenging and exciting circuits in North America, including one new venue for the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA)-sanctioned Single-Make Series.
Sonoma Raceway and Barber Motorsports Park will be new additions, increasing the series’ growing profile with competitors and fans in its 13th season. One additional event weekend will be announced soon.
