DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2014) Known as "Mr. Excitement" by announcers and other competitors in the paddock, Jon Brownson's vivacious personality matches his red-hot No. 34 Élan DP02 entry in the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda.

2013 Masters Championship title winner Brownson is hard to miss in the paddock or on track.

Brownson, 60, describes the 2013 season as "challenging," but he ran consistently with younger drivers at the front of the pack and dominated the Masters Championship throughout the 14-round schedule.

"It was a good accomplishment for me," Brownson said. "It's a very challenging series, and I think the Prototype Lites car is a wonderful platform both as a development series attraction and as a Masters championship."

Eurosport Racing driver Brownson finished the year with 206 points, 14 ahead of the next-closest Masters championships competitor. He produced five wins and eight Masters podiums in 2013, with an overall Lites podium finish at Mid-Ohio.

With the 2014 season looming, Brownson is thankful for his reliable hometown team.

"(Eurosport team principal) Rich Dahl lives and breathes for Prototype Lites racing and has given me the absolute best in tools and tuning to allow my dreams to become reality," Brownson said. "I wouldn't have even come close to a Masters championship without him."

Brownson plans to use the development series to his advantage in 2014, running a full season with Prototype Lites in hopes of some seat time in an LMPC car. Brownson has spent time this offseason testing one of the LMPC cars with the Denver-based Eurosport Racing team, located just two hours from his home in Breckenridge, Colo.

"I think as a base for driving and improving, the Prototype Lites is the best bang for the buck a person can ask for," Brownson said. "I'm looking forward to continuing with the series, and I would like to move up and finish higher next season after finishing fifth overall this year."
