Golden Never Tasted So Good: Commemorative IMSA 50th Anniversary Beer Wildly Popular at Daytona Beach Brewing Company
Thursday, January 24, 2019

As part of IMSA’s 50th Anniversary Celebration and leading up to its prestigious season-opening race – the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 26-27 – IMSA in conjunction with the Daytona Beach Brewing Company fashioned up a Golden Ale to commemorate the sanctioning body’s Golden Anniversary in 2019.

Crafted by local brew master Alan Fawcett, the Golden Anniversary Ale turned from concept to reality over the course of six months with IMSA working hand-in-hand with the brewery.

Touches of IMSA’s 50th Anniversary Celebration can be seen (and tasted) with this ale besides its color. The unique bottle label features a rich, golden color with both the IMSA 50 and Daytona Beach Brewing Company logos, along with a short summary of IMSA’s growth over the years. The alcohol content is also a clever 5.0%.

Following its unveil earlier this month, the initial stock of the Golden Anniversary Ale has nearly all but sold out, with only a handful of bottles still available at the Brewery and the keg already run dry. Another batch will be available around the second weekend of February.

“(IMSA) wanted to find something that was a little more neutral and a golden ale is it,” said Fawcett, who has brewed over 120 different beers. “I customized a new recipe for it and it came out exactly what I wanted. It's nice, light.”

Having opened five years ago and located just a couple miles from Daytona International Speedway, the Daytona Beach Brewing Company had yet to take on a project quite like this.

“Nothing to this magnitude,” said Fawcett. “We always brewed new beers in the tap room just because it's fun for me to do. I always try new styles and things like that. The people that kind of kicked off this program were pretty good friends at the tap room and said ‘Hey, can we do something?’ I said, sure.”
