Skeen Paired with Cosmo in No. 32 Mercedes at VIR

Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports Reunites with Skeen, Won IMSA Prototype Challenge Together in 2019

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mike Skeen will team with Guy Cosmo in the No. 32 Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT GT3 for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway on Oct. 9, the team announced Tuesday.

It will mark the third IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race this season for Skeen but first this year with GKM, which made its season debut last month at Road America. Skeen drove for the team in the 2019 IMSA Prototype Challenge season, winning the finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in the Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) development series.

“I’ve known Gilbert Korthoff through running with them several years ago in LMP3,” said Skeen. “Their program has been coming together all year. I had some conflicts earlier this season, which is why I haven’t raced with them yet, but I tested with them once before Road America. VIR and Petit Le Mans are the two rounds I was able to do. We’re going to do some testing and then do the race program and see where we go from there.”

Skeen, the reigning Trans Am TA2 series champion, has 25 previous IMSA top-level series starts. He was part of the Alegra Motorsports team that finished ninth in GTD at this year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona and drove an LMP3 for Jr III Racing at Road America. He and Cosmo will drive together for the first time at VIR.

“I’m really excited to have Mike Skeen join us,” said Cosmo, who has four career wins in an IMSA career spanning nearly two decades. “He’s absolutely at the top of his game, winning everywhere he goes lately. Although we’ve never driven together before, it’s going to be an exciting opportunity for that to finally happen, and to work together to continue to develop this Gilbert Korthoff program in WeatherTech competition.”
