DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Dan Goldburg was the driver to beat in the first official day of competition for the new IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge that features a 45-minute doubleheader sprint race format with Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) prototypes and GT4-specification cars.

Goldburg (No. 73 JDC MotorSports Duqueine D08) enjoyed a 0.790-second advantage in LMP3 over Bijoy Garg (No. 3 Jr III Racing Ligier JS P320) after Friday’s two practice sessions at Daytona International Speedway. Goldburg’s top lap was 1 minute, 43.827 seconds (123.436 mph) in the latter practice.

Tim Probert (No. 65 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT GT4) topped the GSX class in both sessions, with his 1:54.660 lap (111,774 mph) in the morning setting the benchmark.

Twenty-four cars are entered in the series’ debut. Qualifying starts at 8:40 a.m. ET Saturday. Race 1 goes off at 2:05 p.m., with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA Radio.
