Formula E Champion Confirmed for Daytona Debut Aboard Porsche 963
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Pascal Wehrlein, the 2023-’24 FIA Formula E Champion, is set to make his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Rolex 24 At Daytona debut aboard JDC-Miller MotorSports’ entry in the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class.
The German driver tested the Porsche 963 for the first time at Sebring International Raceway in October 2022, and returned to the car for the IMSA-sanctioned test in November 2024 with JDC-Miller. Wehrlein and fellow Porsche Formula E driver Antonio Felix da Costa are due to arrive to Daytona for the Roar Before the Rolex 24 test just after completing a race in Mexico City.
“I’ve always wanted to drive sports cars – that’s one of my goals as a racing driver,” Wehrlein said. “Now I have the opportunity to prove myself there too. I’m very happy about that!
“The test drives with JDC-Miller MotorSports in mid-November went well. The Porsche 963 reminded me of the DTM cars of my time – I felt comfortable. I’m currently recovering from my accident in São Paulo. But I want to get back to full speed in January.”
Wehrlein will share the No. 85 Porsche 963 with Tijmen van der Helm and Bryce Aron. Van der Helm has three Rolex 24 starts, one apiece in GTP, Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) and Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) while Wehrlein and Aron are Daytona first-timers.
JDC-Miller is a past Rolex 24 winner, having captured the Prototype Challenge (PC) class win in 2016. The team also is set to start its new relationship with Porsche in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, with a Grand Sport (GS) class Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. Chris Miller and Mikey Taylor return after winning the Touring Car (TCR) class title last year.
