DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – AO Racing is reprising one of its fan-favorite liveries and debuting its newest livery in IMSA competition to cap off this year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Motul Petit Le Mans, as revealed on social media Tuesday.
Both its No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) in Grand Touring Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) and No. 99 ORECA LMP2 07 in Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) will take on different looks compared to the traditional green “Rexy” dinosaur on the Porsche and purple “Spike” the dragon of its LMP2 car.
AO put “spooktacular” Halloween-inspired liveries on both cars at last year’s Motul Petit Le Mans, and wound up winning the LMP2 championship with its No. 99 car shared by PJ Hyett, Dane Cameron and Jonny Edgar. This year, just the No. 77 Porsche resumes in the Halloween-themed livery, with a reprisal/variation of what ran last year. Nick Tandy, Harry King and Alessio Picariello share the No. 77 Porsche; they enter the weekend sixth in GTD PRO points, 154 back of the lead and still mathematically eligible for the title.
Its No. 99 LMP2 ORECA, meanwhile, will see “Rockie the Pegasus” race Stateside for the first time. The red and white prototype debuted at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans (below), where Hyett flew the flag as the Jim Trueman Award winner with his LMP2 title last year in addition to his, Cameron’s and Louis Deletraz’s title in the European Le Mans Series LMP2 Pro/Am division.
