Hawksworth Returns to Lexus Lineup at Lime Rock

Brit Will Race for the First Time Since Early May after Sustaining Injuries in a Motocross Incident

LAKEVILLE, Conn. – Lexus factory driver Jack Hawksworth will return to drive the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 in this weekend’s FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park.

The seven-time IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race winner has been sidelined since early May after sustaining injuries in a motocross incident. Hawksworth confirmed on social media Thursday that he suffered a burst fracture of the T12 vertebra and a bimalleolar fracture of his right ankle, both injuries requiring surgery.

“They have healed up really well,” Hawksworth posted on Twitter. “Looking forward to getting back after it this weekend with the boys.”

Hawksworth will again be paired with Ben Barnicoat in the GTD PRO class. Barnicoat and the No. 14 Lexus currently sit third in the driver and team class standings, 207 points out of the lead with four races remaining. When they last drove together, Hawksworth and Barnicoat teamed for back-to-back podium finishes at the Long Beach street course and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

“Thank you to everybody at Vasser Sullivan, TRD (Toyota Racing Development) and Lexus for their support while I have been injured and to all the surgeons, trainers and physios who have helped me get back on my feet so quickly,” Hawksworth said. “I feel very lucky to be healthy again and just can’t wait to put this all behind me and get back to the track. I feel fit and ready to go and looking forward to getting back to racing with Ben and the rest of the Vasser Sullivan team this weekend.”

Live coverage of Saturday’s race is available at 3 p.m. ET on Peacock and IMSA Radio. The USA Network telecast starts at 5 p.m.
