IMSA PARTNER MICHELIN
Michelin’s unique experience and relentless focus on innovation makes it the technical partner of choice for many top manufacturer and independent teams in motorsports. Michelin has an outstanding record in motorsports endurance racing and has claimed the last 23 consecutive overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Motorsports is an integral part of Michelin’s research and development process, and the specialists who operate out of its Technology Centers in Europe, North America and Asia work hand-in-hand with Michelin’s Motorsport engineers and Motorsport Tire Specialists to develop technologies first in racing tires and then carry over the resulting innovations to everyday tires used by drivers around the world.
In 2019, Michelin became the Official Tire of IMSA. Michelin is the exclusive tire provider for the WeatherTech Championship DPi, LMP2, LMP3 and GT Daytona classes and all classes in both IMSA MICHELIN Pilot Challenge and IMSA Prototype Challenge series. The WeatherTech Championship GT Le Mans class remains an open tire category.
New for 2021, the Porsche Carrera Cup North America joins IMSA’s portfolio of race series. For the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), Michelin has developed a specific new tire, the MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup N3. The new MICHELIN Pilot Sport Cup N3 combines superior grip and consistency with longer life, and is the fruit of a joint development process that saw Michelin and Porsche test at five different circuits to cover a wide variety of track configurations.
In the first two seasons with Michelin as Official Tire of IMSA, all automotive brands entered in IMSA have scored at least one race win and/or one race pole. Drivers and teams competing have set more than 100 new qualifying or race lap records, and established several race distance records, proving consistent performance and endurance over time.
Beyond IMSA, Michelin races at Le Mans, in major endurance races worldwide, and in the FIA World Endurance Championship, MotoGP World Championship and ABB Formula E Championship.
The IMSA 2021 season concludes at Michelin’s “home track” - Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta with Motul Petit Le Mans, just a short drive from the North American headquarters in Greenville, S.C.
