WEATHERTECH CHAMPIONSHIP CHARITIES AUSTIN HATCHER FOUNDATION

The Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer is in its fifth year as a “Proud Charity” of IMSA. This dynamic partnership has dramatically raised awareness for the foundation’s admirable mission: to erase the effects of pediatric cancer on young patients and their families. The partnership facilitates a variety of opportunities for fan-friendly fundraising activities at circuits that host both IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge events.

The foundation is a national 501(c)3 public charity founded by Dr. Jim Osborn and his wife Amy Jo Osborn, after they lost their infant son, Austin Hatcher Osborn, to an aggressive form of pediatric cancer in the autumn of 2006. Jim Osborn serves as the foundation chairman while Amy Jo Osborn serves as the foundation president, both as volunteers.

Since its establishment, the Austin Hatcher Foundation has provided programs and services to over 70,000 children and their family members in 38 hospitals across 28 states. Programs and services expanded in 2017 as the Austin Hatcher Foundation opened the door to its new Education Advancement Center.

The Education Advancement Center is automotive-themed, reflecting the support received for many years from both the motorsports and automotive industries. In addition to its status with IMSA, the foundation formerly was the “Official Charity” of the American Le Mans Series. Beginning in 2016, the foundation also became part of the “SEMA Cares” family of charities.

New programs and services include the exciting “Hot Rodders of Tomorrow” at “Hatch’s Shop” in the Education Advancement Center, providing industrial arts education with cognitive therapy benefits. In addition, a Driving Simulation Education program is planned along with other initiatives unique to the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
