The IndyCar and Ex-Formula 1 Driver Will Make His WeatherTech Championship Debut in a Huracán GT3 EVO2 at the Rolex 24 Next Month

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – IndyCar and ex-Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean will make his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut next month in the Rolex 24 At Daytona as part of an agreement that makes the Swiss French pilot a Lamborghini factory driver.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse announced Tuesday that the 36-year-old Grosjean has been named a factory driver and test driver for the Italian manufacturer’s LMDh program that will begin competition in 2024, both in the WeatherTech Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship. In addition to testing and development of the hybrid-based LMDh, Grosjean will also race an Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in a number of 2023 endurance races starting with the Rolex 24 on Jan. 28-29.
“It’s an honor to be joining Lamborghini,” Grosjean said. “It’s such an iconic brand for everyone who loves cars, including myself and my kids. On top of that, I am very excited about two things: The first is starting in Daytona with the GT3 which has been very successful in Daytona and a really good team like Iron Lynx and teammates around me, so that is going to be a nice discovery for myself.
“And then, later in the year developing the new LMDh, which is a beautiful car – I’m lucky to have seen it – and an incredible project in endurance. It’s becoming a very exciting category with all the constructors coming. With Lamborghini being such a successful brand, I hope we can do well in the future.”
The EVO version of the Huracán GT3 was victorious in three consecutive years at the Rolex 24 in the GT Daytona (GTD) class, from 2018-20. Grosjean, who raced in F1 from 2009-20 before moving to the IndyCar Series the past two seasons, will team with fellow Lamborghini factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti at Daytona in the EVO2’s global racing debut for Iron Lynx, the Lamborghini partner team.
