Trio Added to WeatherTech Championship Drivers List for Le Mans

Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy Will Race in a Third Porsche 963; Ricky Taylor Joins Tower Motorsports in LMP2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The number of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship drivers that will compete in the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans in June continues to grow, following announcements from Porsche Penske Motorsport and Tower Motorsports.

The Penske organization previously announced that it will enter three Porsche 963s in the Hypercar class for Le Mans – the two cars scheduled to run the entire FIA World Endurance Championship season and a third on a one-off basis. Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy, full-season drivers of the No. 6 Porsche 963 in the WeatherTech Championship’s Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class, have been named co-drivers of that No. 75 Porsche for Le Mans and will team with Felipe Nasr, who had already been named a driver of the car on top of his full-season WeatherTech Championship duties in the No. 7 Porsche.

Tandy has 10 previous Le Mans starts, including an overall victory in 2015 co-driving the Porsche 919 Hybrid. Nasr has raced at Le Mans three times while Jaminet will make his second start. Nasr’s season-long WeatherTech Championship co-driver, Matt Campbell, has been named as the reserved driver for the No. 75 team.

Meanwhile, Tower Motorsports owner John Farano earned an invitation to race at Le Mans this year after winning the Jim Trueman Award as the top Bronze-rated Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) driver in the 2022 WeatherTech Championship. Farano has added Ricky Taylor, normally the GTP driver for Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport, and Rene Rast to pilot the No. 13 Tower Motorsports with TDS Racing ORECA LMP2 07 in the ProAm class at Le Mans.

“Le Mans is the one race of the year that every driver wants to participate in, and being able to join a powerhouse team such as Tower Motorsports with TDS Racing is really a great opportunity,” said Taylor, who will be making his 10th appearance in the iconic race. “Anytime TDS have competed at Le Mans, they have been one of the cars that everyone knows will be fighting for the win. We have one goal and that is nothing less than winning Le Mans, and it looks like we have all of the pieces in place to be able to do it.”

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is set for June 10-11 at the 8.5-mile French circuit.
