The IndyCar Driver Looks to Back up His Sebring LMP2 Win in the Season Finale
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Scott McLaughlin, the IndyCar Series driver and past Australian Supercars champion who was part of the winning Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) team at this year’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, will return in the same car for the Motul Petit Le Mans in October.
The announcement came Tuesday that McLaughlin (center in above photo) will rejoin Tower Motorsports in the No. 8 ORECA LMP2 07 for the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale, Oct. 11-14 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
“I’m excited to get to Road Atlanta and get to work with the Tower Motorsports crew,” McLaughlin said. “Petit is one of those bucket list events that I’ve had my eye on for many years, and it’s exciting to get to check this off. I’ve really enjoyed competing in the LMP2 class with this team and I’m confident we can build on our success from earlier this year.”
McLaughlin won 56 Supercars races and three championships before moving fulltime to the IndyCar Series in 2021, where he has four victories and is fourth in the 2023 standings. After making his WeatherTech Championship debut with Tower at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January, he teamed with John Farano and Kyffin Simpson to win at Sebring in March. McLaughlin will drive again with Simpson at the Motul Petit Le Mans, with the third driver yet to be named.
