Hindman Returns to Team for Full-Season Drive alongside Formal; Doyle Back for Endurance Races, Marcelli for Rolex 24
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Wayne Taylor Racing announced today the driver lineup for the team’s Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) entry in the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 2025 season will mark WTR’s second competing full time in the GTD class after earning a pole position and four top-10 finishes, including a fifth-place result at Motul Petit Le Mans, in 2024.
Danny Formal will return to the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 full-season lineup and be joined by Trent Hindman, who returns to WTR after competing with the team in the 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series. Graham Doyle again will join the team for the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup’s five events throughout 2025. Rounding out the driver lineup is veteran WTR driver Kyle Marcelli, who will join the No. 45 team for the Rolex 24 at Daytona that opens the season.
“I’m excited to be back in GTD with DEX and Lamborghini,” team owner Wayne Taylor said. “We have a great lineup this year. Danny is back and stronger than ever. Trent has rejoined our WTR family, which is great as we had such success together back in 2017 in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. Graham will be running with us in the five IMEC endurance events again and keeps stepping things up as he gains more and more experience. And we are delighted to have Kyle back, who is part of our WTR family. It is going to be a great season with DEX and Lamborghini.”
“Automobili Lamborghini is very excited to enter the sophomore year of our partnership with Wayne Taylor Racing in GTD,” said Eriks Skirmants, senior manager of Motorsport for Automobili Lamborghini America. “The No. 45 car had a strong debut season, and with the highly professional and motivated WTR team, it has all of the elements to be a championship contender. Always a great partner in developing talent through their Super Trofeo program, WTR has again drafted exemplary graduates for the GTD program.
“Welcoming Trent Hindman back into a Lamborghini seat was a high priority we all shared. The 2025 WTR No. 45 GTD program is a great step forward in the long-term mutual vision of program growth and connection to Automobili Lamborghini driver programs.”
In 2024, Formal earned the team’s first sprint race GTD pole position at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and the only IMSA pole position for Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s GTD entries on the season. Throughout 2024, Formal drew “double duty,” competing with both the GTD class as well as in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Pro class championship. Formal will look to bring his familiarity to the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 and his impressive pace as the team enters a second full season of GTD competition.
As the co-driver in the No. 45 Lamborghini, American racer Hindman is welcomed back to the WTR family. Hindman and WTR’s success together includes an overall Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals champion title at Imola, Italy, and the 2017 Super Trofeo North America ProAm drivers’ title. Since his days racing in Super Trofeo, Hindman has made a name for himself competing in the WeatherTech Championship and the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. Notable achievements to Hindman’s racing portfolio include the WeatherTech Championship GTD title in 2019 and the GTD Michelin Endurance Cup championship in 2021. In 2022, Hindman was Grand Sport (GS) class champion in the Michelin Pilot Challenge.
Doyle enters his sophomore season of competing on the WeatherTech Championship GTD grid as the team’s endurance race co-driver. Like his teammate Formal, Doyle also drove in Lamborghini Super Trofeo in 2024, in the Am class. As the 2024 season progressed, Doyle consistently improved in experience, pace and confidence behind the wheel and will look to capitalize on that success entering 2025.
Marcelli returns to WTR and the No. 45 Lamborghini with multiple years of sports car racing experience, most recently competing for the full season in the GTD class in 2024 alongside Formal and Doyle. The 2025 Rolex 24 will mark his fifth consecutive year competing with WTR, including capturing back-to-back Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Pro class championships in 2021 and 2022 with teammate Formal.
Danny Formal: “2025 is starting already and fast approaching. It’s going to be our second season with the GTD program. I’ll have a new teammate in Trent Hindman and have heard great things about him from the WTR family, as well as sharing the car with Graham Doyle and Kyle Marcelli again. I’m super excited to get going. We had a fantastic first season with an amazing top five to end the season at Road Atlanta. We got our first pole position as a team in GTD, we were the only Lamborghini to get a pole position all season long. We led some laps at a lot of the tracks we went to. In the second season, our sophomore season, it’s going to be a great one – I can already tell. The WTR team is preparing, the team knows the car better and as a driver I know the car better. I’m super excited to get started and super grateful for this opportunity. Excited to get to Daytona with a new schedule, moving the qualifying to race weekend is really awesome, I like the change! Super excited and ready to get going on 2025 with WTR.”
Trent Hindman: “For me, this a long-awaited reunion with a team I’ve shared success with in the past. Although a different Lamborghini Huracán platform, championship series and group of teammates, I look forward to finding success again with the same core group that has developed so much over the past seven years since we last worked together. The long-standing partnership between Wayne Taylor Racing and Lamborghini has now become a staple of the IMSA paddock, and I am excited to now play a role towards their growth into GTD championship contenders. Already, I’m very grateful to Danny, Graham and the WTR engineering staff for welcoming me with open arms. Much of the core group on the GTD program are the same personnel that won the 2017 Super Trofeo NA Pro and World Final titles, which makes the transition back to the team very exciting for me. Danny and I crossed paths a bit while racing karts, where he was and still is a dominant driver, and tracking Graham’s progress throughout 2024 has been confidence-inspiring to say the least. I’m very much looking forward to working with these guys and pushing each other towards becoming consistent GTD race winners.”
Graham Doyle: “Coming back for my second season in the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GT3 EVO2, I’m excited for the challenges ahead. Working with Wayne Taylor Racing’s strong legacy and continuing to push the limits with myself and my teammates, I look forward to an exciting 2025 building on the solid foundation we created in 2024 in our first year of GT3 racing. Not only am I excited to continue this passion and move forward, I’m excited to work closely with Lamborghini and Wayne Taylor Racing to continue to grow as a driver and as a person completely. I look forward to enhancing my own confidence and enhancing performance in the car and in the team. Working with my two teammates in Danny and Trent, who share this vision, is one of the highlights of being part of this team. The collaboration between all three of us fosters a real growth opportunity and to strive to find excellence. We’re very excited to get the Rolex started and get the 2025 season moving ahead.”
Kyle Marcelli: “I’m taking on a different role within the team for the 2025 season. At the moment, just doing the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Nonetheless, the focus and the task remains the same. I look forward to the addition of the torque sensor to the GTD category. I’m hopeful this data point will improve the quality and competition across the many manufacturers involved in GT3 racing in IMSA. The program has all the tools and resources needed; it’s just a matter of checking all the boxes. We were missing some speed throughout the first three-quarters of the 2024 season, but we improved in the last two rounds. I think that learning and momentum will carry immediately into the 2025 season, and I’m confident the No. 45 should challenge for podium at each event. Consistency is one of the many keys to success. The brand loyalty between WTR and Lamborghini is rich, and collectively both sides are equally as motivated to win races in 2025. Danny and I have done this a lot over the past four years and it’s made us both better drivers. Graham has been a sponge consuming so much information and experience in his rookie season, I think you will see a lot of confidence and speed out of him in 2025. Trent is a proven quantity and I’m sure will be a plug-and-play to the program. We’ve been teammates and competitors over the years and there’s a strong mutual respect. Overall, I think we are bringing a strong lineup to Daytona 24 Hour and the rest of the season.”
