The Son of NBC Broadcaster Kevin Lee Will Make His IMSA Debut at Daytona in January
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Czabok-Simpson Motorsport has signed Jackson Lee for the 2024 IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge season to drive the No. 66 Porsche Cayman RS GT4 Clubsport in the GSX class.
Lee, 21, has spent the bulk of his racing career in junior open-wheel racing series. A 2020 Team USA Scholarship winner, he spent most of three seasons in USF 2000 and USF Pro 2000. The son of NBC motorsports commentator Kevin Lee will make his IMSA debut when the VP Racing Challenge season opens Jan. 19-21 at Daytona International Speedway.
“I’m super excited to make the move into the IMSA series with Czabok-Simpson Motorsport and looking forward to the opportunity they have given me,” Jackson Lee said. “I want to drive as many different types of cars as I can, and I know the IMSA platform offers a great experience for me as a driver and commercially for our partners. It’s a great time to be taking this step in my career, while still pursuing opportunities in the IndyCar ladder system. I’ve known of Stephen (Simpson) from his success in IMSA as a driver and also as a coach and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the new Porsche.”
The VP Racing Challenge is an IMSA development series with a pair of 45-minute sprint races on each of six race weekends. Two classes compete: GSX with GT4-spec cars along with Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) machinery.
“I am excited to have Jackson as part of our team and welcome him and his sponsors to our program,” team co-owner Simpson said. “I was very keen to give him a shot in one of our Porsches and I have no doubt he will make a good impression. He’s fast and smart.”
