DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Toney Driver Development (TDD) announced today that it will return to the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge for the 2027 season, expanding their efforts and committing to a multi-car LMP3 program utilizing the Ligier JS P325 chassis. The move marks TDD’s commitment to IMSA-sanctioned competition and comes as the series returns to an all-endurance race format for the first time in years.
“We’re excited for Toney Driver Development to return to the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge with a multi-car effort right as the series returns to its endurance roots,” said Team Owner Nathan Toney. “This step shows commitment for our organization, and the timing couldn’t be better with the format change to longer, more strategic races. We’ve put a lot of work into building a program that can compete for wins right out of the gate, and we can’t wait to introduce our driver lineups in the coming weeks.”
IMSA officials confirmed last week that the LMP3 class will continue to race for overall victories in 2027, with all competitors required to run third-generation homologated LMP3 machinery powered by Toyota’s V35A 3.5-liter engine as part of the sanctioning body’s continued long-term partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO). The seven-event 2027 schedule will feature races ranging from 90 minutes to three hours, opening at Sebring International Raceway in late February and closing at Lime Rock Park in September, with stops at Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, and Road Atlanta in between. Each entry will require two drivers per car under IMSA’s driver-categorization rules, with at least one Bronze- or Silver-rated driver mandatory in every lineup.
