Mark Motors Racing is thrilled to announce the return of Marco Cirone! He will be behind the wheel of one of the new 2019 GT3 cup cars for the Mark Motors Racing team in this year’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama!
Italian born, Marco Cirone has made a name for himself as a racing legend in the GT3 cup series. With 5 Platinum Masters Championships under his belt, Cirone looks to add to his trophy collection this season. Although not without its challenges, he looks forward to the competition this year.
“One of the challenges to face this year is to try and compete for an overall podium in the Platinum class” said Cirone.“Being able to run close to some of the best drivers in Canada will require a lot of work but I think we have the right team and people for the job!”
This season, the schedule takes the team to Mount Tremblant and Road America –two tracks Marco thoroughly enjoys competing at.
“I am super excited tobe going back to Mount Tremblant and Road America” said Cirone.“These are two beautiful and technical race tracks that we have not been to since 2011. Compliments to IMSA for making them part of the Canadian Schedule. We will have to go back and revisit all our old notes we have we raced there. It should be so much fun!”
Cirone will be racing alongside rising star Roman De Angelis for a third straight season. Their friendship and teamwork has created a fun atmosphere for the crew and fans!
“I knew Roman when he was just a short shy red headed kid who always use to follow my career” said Cirone.“Now he towers over all of us and has become one of the fastest drivers in the series!”
“We are so proud to have Marco back on the grid and race team for the 2019 series. He is a true sportsman with a lot of fire in his belly that we know he will channel onto the race track. This year marks ours 8th year in Porsche racing and with Roman and Marco, we know it will be a good one! Spring is here and we are ready to race.”said LizaMrak, Executive Vice President of MarkMotors Group.
Marco currently holds the record for the most wins by a Masters Porsche Cup Driver in history. He will be competing in all 6 Canadian race weekends this season beginning with the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario May 18 –19, 2019.
