Moorespeed and team drivers Riley Dickinson and Rob Ferriol head to Road America this weekend for Rounds Nine and 10 of the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, August 2 – 4.
While not a homecoming for the Texas-based team, Road America’s four-mile track is where the Moorespeed team got its start. Most importantly, it is the track where the team has seen it’s greatest success in recent years. Moorespeed has swept the doubleheader each of the past two seasons, with Corey Fergus behind the wheel in 2017 and Zacharie Robichon in 2018.
Dickinson and Ferriol will have a chance to continue that winning streak beginning Friday with practice at 8:55 a.m. CDT and again at 1:30 p.m. CDT. With no time to rest, qualifying comes later that day at 5:40 p.m. CDT to set the grid for Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. CDT 45-minute race. Sunday’s 45-minute race begins at 9:40 a.m. CDT. Both races can be viewed live on IMSA.tv.
“Road America is a special place for us, as its where it all started over 30 years ago,” Moorespeed President David Moore said. “The last two years is just the latest example of the success we’ve had. We want to keep that streak going for sure. It never comes easy though, and everyone knows it can bite back if you are not on your game. Without a doubt, all our friends in the paddock will be giving it their all too as we are not alone claiming this to be one of our favorite tracks, but we are confident we will be competitive in both Gold and Platinum this event.”
Moorespeed and its drivers spent two days last week at the Elkhart Lake track testing. The test was an opportunity for Ferriol to get reacquainted with the track and for 17-year-old Dickinson to turn his first laps on the circuit. Dickinson will pilot the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in Platinum Cup, where he currently sits fourth in the driver’s championship point battle.
“Early into testing last week, I quickly began to fall in love with the track,” Dickinson said. “It has a wide variety of corners speed wise as well as having three major straightaways that all flow together very nicely. From the experience that I was able to gain during the test last week, there are several places to pass, which is going to make for some exciting racing and be entertaining for fans to watch.”
Ferriol will drive the No. 5 Moorespeed/GridRival Porsche 911 GT3 in the Gold Cup class, where he is third in the championship hunt.
“Road America is all about commitment, and when you get it right, it’s one of the most gratifying circuits on the IMSA schedule,” Ferriol said. “It’s big, fast, and surrounded by these awesome tunnels of trees and topography. Testing this week reminded me just how much I love this track, but also how much its characteristics can change throughout the day. I think we learned a lot and are headed into next weekend with our best foot forward, ready to make another charge for the podium. I flirted with my first IMSA win at Road America last year, but lost the position on a late race restart. We’ll see if we can’t make it stick this time!”
Saturday and Sunday’s 45-minute races can be watched live on IMSA.tv. Pre-race coverage will begin at 12:20 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday morning. A one-hour show from Road America will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 2 p.m. EDT on Thursday, August 15.
