WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is the site of success for TeamTGM after scoring a dramatic win in 2018 on the way to capturing the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class Championship. TeamTGM is hoping to repeat last year’s pace this Saturday for the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 (IMSA.tv 5:55pm ET).
It’s hard to forget the last lap victory that saw Hugh Plumb and Owen Trinkler take the No. 46 Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis (JKTG) Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4 to victory lane at Laguna Seca just two corners before the checkered flag.
That victory marked the first Laguna triumph for Trinkler, who had previously finished on the Laguna podium three times. Trinkler is hoping to build off of the team’s fourth place finish at the previous round of IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge competition.
Plumb’s best finish was with TeamTGM in 2018, and marked a big moment in his career, ultimately bringing him and the team one step closer to claiming the GS championship. After overcoming some bad racing luck this season on the way to his Lime Rock Park victory, Plumb is ready to do the same again this weekend at Laguna.
“WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is one of the best circuits on our schedule,” said Plumb. “I love going to Monterey, and it’s a great race track. It would be great to repeat last year’s amazing win for TGM but we will be going into it with the same mentality as always.”
Guy Cosmo and Ted Giovanis are coming off of their best finish to date (8th) at Virginia International Raceway in the No. 4 JKTG Foundation / Camp Boggy Creek Mercedes-AMG GT4.
“Laguna is a great track and winning there last year was a really great feeling,” said Giovanis. “I’m looking forward to returning there since I have now raced there earlier this year. Turn 6 is my favorite because it’s a high speed sweeper. I’m looking forward to this year’s race and being in the top ten.”
Having had race starts at Laguna Seca since 2005, Cosmo is aiming to continue the progress between him and Giovanis. Cosmo has three podium finishes at Laguna including a win in 2009.
“I’m amped up to get back in the No. 4 TeamTGM Mercedes with the ‘Ironman’ Ted Giovanis,” said Cosmo. “After our best finish of the year at VIR we’ve got some good mojo going and we’re excited to bring that to Laguna.”
The Qualifying for the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 1:50pm ET with the race set for a green flag start at 6:05pm ET. There will be live qualifying and race coverage on IMSA.tv.
