Dylan Murry Ready to Tackle 2020 IMSA Season

With the IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona race weekend looming this weekend at Daytona International Speedway, Dylan Murry can’t wait to dive headlong into what will be a very hectic 2020 season.
The Cumming, Georgia resident will once again be racing in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series, while also competing full-time in the IMSA Prototype Challenge series.
“I’m very excited about tackling both series this year,” said Murry. “It’s going to be a busy year for sure. During six out of the 10 race weekends, I will be racing in the two series. Most of the time, the haulers probably won’t be very close to each other in the paddock, so that will make sure I get my cardio in. It will actually be a lot of fun.”
Murry will team with co-driver Jim Cox for both series. While they competed in their first IMSA Prototype Challenge race at Daytona earlier this month, they will race in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season opener on Friday – the four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge.
“We’re looking forward to Friday,” said Murry, the son of former sports car world champion, David Murry. “We have a great team in Riley Motorsports which consistently gives us a fast Mercedes-AMG GT4.”
Last year, Murry and Cox finished tied for sixth in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge driver standings. Hence, contending for the championship this year will be the clear priority.
“There’s no question about that,” said Murry. “We certainly know that we can run with the big dogs, as proven by our win at Watkins Glen last season. You also can’t put enough value on the fact that both Jim and I have more experience under our belts.”
Murry will be heading into his sophomore season as a professional race car driver and he knows it will be far different than his rookie campaign.
“It will definitely be different this time around,” he said. “Being a rookie, you have to learn so much. You have to learn the new car, new tracks and, most importantly, establish a bond with the new team and crew. One of the most important bonds for a driver is with the engineer. Last year, Matt Bejnarowicz and I had to learn each other’s terminology on how to set up the car and what we mean when we say certain things. Now, I can say one thing about the car and Matt knows exactly what I mean.”
So, is the anticipation building for the start of the 2020 season?
“No doubt about it,” said Murry. “I can’t wait to get going. I really believe this year will be awesome.”
