MLT Motorsports Earns 4th at Sebring Jumps to 2nd in Championship Points

Dakota Dickerson and Dominic Cicero piloted the #54 MLT Motorsports Ligier JSP3 to a 4th place finish in toSaturday’s one hour and 45-minute race at historic Sebring International Raceway. The strong finish for the pair moves the team into 2nd place in the IMSA Prototype Challenge season championship after two rounds.

Cicero, who joined the team after Dean Baker faced travel restrictions to and from Canada due to the COVID 19 outbreak, started the race and ran a strong stint before turning the car over to Dickerson. The #54 Ligier ran as high as 2nd position but ultimately settled for 4th – the highest placing Ligier chassis in the race.

"It was great to be back on track this weekend and I feel like we picked up right where we left off before the forced extended season break," said Eric VanBibber, MLT Motorsports team manager. "We already knew Dakota was fast and Dominic jumped in, acclimated to the car and series, and ran a near-flawless stint. He turned the car over to Dakota in great shape in a solid position."

2020 is just the team’s second full-time season in the IMSA Prototype Challenge and they have continued to impress by consistently running at the front of the field. Round 1 at Daytona in January saw the team finish on the podium in 3rd. Having already notched their first win, last season at Mid-Ohio, the drivers and crew have their sights set on the season championship in 2020.

"Our crew executed well all weekend – in practice and during the race. This gave our drivers the best possible car to race, and the results speak for themselves," offered Dr. Michael Thompson, team owner. "We are really looking forward to Road America in a few weeks and are eyeing to improve our finishing position by a couple of places."

The team also debuted a brand new livery, featuring the familiar purple and orange colors in a striking new design. Look for the #54 on track at Road America on August 2nd.
