Dylan Murry Eyes Return to Victory Lane at Road America

After recording a top 10 finish at Sebring International Raceway two weeks ago, Dylan Murry has his sights set on a return to victory lane this weekend in the third round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series at Road America.

The two-hour Road America 120 is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. CDT start on Saturday, August 1, at one of the world’s fastest permanent road racing tracks.

“I absolutely love Road America,” said Murry. “It’s my one of my all-time favorites. The long straightaways and fast 90 degree corners makes it an incredibly fun and entertaining circuit.”

Murry, who will once again team with co-driver Jim Cox in a Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4, dropped from first to fourth in the driver standings following his ninth-place finish at Sebring. The pair had previously captured the season opener at Daytona in January.

“We had a really fast Wynn’s Mercedes-AMG at Sebring,” said the Cumming, Georgia resident. “It’s a shame that we couldn’t prove our full potential, but we did lay down the fastest lap of the race which makes a big statement to all of the competitors that we’re not just a one trick pony.

“As far as the points are concerned, you really can’t look at that too much this early in the season. For sure, we didn’t have the best race at Sebring and we had some bad luck, but in the end how others finish is irrelevant to us. As long as we keep doing our absolute best each and every race and with a little luck on our side, we’ll be able to secure the championship lead again in no time.”

Murry, who is the son of former sports car world champion David Murry, has all the confidence in the world that his Riley Motorsports team will bounce back in a big way.

“Everyone at Riley Motorsports was super motivated going into Sebring,” said Murry. “They put so much work into the car. I like to think of that race as just a confidence booster and that we still have what it takes to be fast. We’re carrying even more motivation going into Road America.”

Murry made his IMSA debut in the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series in 2018 alongside his father. They were the first father-son combination to race in the series. In 2017, he finished in the top 10 in both NASCAR K&N Pro Series races that he competed in. He also has 12 overall championships to his credit in go karts as well as in the Pro Class Legends and Pro-Legends Winter Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
