Top 5 Finish for MLT Motorsports Keeps Championship within Reach

Dominic Cicero and Dakota Dickerson teamed up once again in the #54 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS P3 and finished 4th at the third round of the IMSA Prototype Challenge at Road America.

Cicero qualified for the race in 8th position and drove to the lead before pitting for fuel, tires and a driver change on lap 26. Dickerson took over the reins and worked his way back through the field after returning to the track in 7th position, ultimately finishing in 4th.

Mere steps away from another podium finish, the team still accomplished its main goal of closing the gap in the championship standings – MLT Motorsports sit in 2nd overall, just 2-points behind the first place team. With three more races to go, the team is well-positioned to battle for its first championship in the series.

“It was a challenging race for us and both drivers managed our tires and fuel very well, allowing us to push at the end of the race,” said race engineer John Bobbitt. “We needed one more lap and our strategy would have been perfect, sometimes that is the way it goes in racing.”

Dickerson also sits in 2nd position in the driver points and is hungry to follow up his 2019 F3 Americas championship with an IMSA championship.

The team heads to Virginia International Raceway for the fourth round of the series in a couple of weeks, where they finished 4th last year. Cicero and Dickerson will share driving duties again, while Dean Baker is still dealing with travel restrictions to and from Canada due to the pandemic. Baker hopes to be behind the wheel for the Mid-Ohio and Road Atlanta races this fall.
