Celebrating Earth Day through IMSA Sustainability Initiatives

The North American Sports Car Racing Sanctioning Organization Has Implemented Important Positive Changes in 2023

As the world celebrates Earth Day 2023, the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) has made strides this year toward a sustainable future. While we know there’s miles to go, IMSA has implemented some key initiatives in that direction.

The first was the introduction of the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition this season. The GTP cars feature a hybrid-electrified powertrain, the use of 80 percent renewable fuel and significantly reduced tire allocations than the previous top prototype class.

In addition, IMSA added solar panels and a battery storage system to its Konica Minolta Business Center that allows the at-track business unit to operate “off the grid” as well as serve as a charging station for electrified passenger vehicles.
