DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Pre-qualifying for the 2024 IMSA Esports Global Championship is officially open for prospective teams and drivers to attempt to qualify onto this year’s roster. The official iRacing Time Attack went live on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 12:00 GMT/UTC, and it will close at 23:59 GMT/UTC on October 28, 2024.
The Time Attack is set at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. Each class – Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) and Grand Touring Daytona (GTD) – has its own Time Attack created on the Time Attack section of the iRacing User Interface, and drivers and teams are allowed to enter multiple Time Attacks to attempt to qualify across multiple classes. Drivers can also drive any of the eligible cars in the respective classes in order to qualify into the Car Shootout. This Time Attack is an Open Setup event, and the servers have been set to Severe Qualifying Conduct Scrutiny.
During the Time Attack, drivers can attempt to set their fastest lap times in order to qualify for the next round of the qualification process, the Car Shootout, which takes place next week, November 2-3. All prospective teams must also register themselves and their two drivers by October 28, 2024 at 23:59 GMT/UTC.
There are limits to how many entries each team is allowed to have. Those questions and further details on Pre-Qualifying, the Car Shootout, and the series can be found in the official series rulebook, as well as on the official Discord of the IMSA Esports Global Championship.
At the end of the Time Attack, the fastest eligible teams in each class, which will be ordered by their registered driver’s combined fastest laps times, will be invited to the aforementioned Car Shootout, where the full roster for the 2024 IMSA Esports Global Championship will be decided upon from there.
Through the year, some teams have already qualified into each class by virtue of winning one of the four VCO Grand Slam-classified iRacing Special Events, in the Daytona 24, Sebring 12, Watkins Glen 6HR, and Petit Le Mans events. With four entries in each class confirmed (GTP: Coanda Esports, Team Redline, Williams Esports, Williams Esports | GTD: Apex Racing Team, Drago Racing, Team Redline, Team Redline) there will be 12 entries available in the GTP class and 28 team entries in the GTD class through the Time Attack Qualifiers.
