DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fran Rueda will step into the No. 70 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO for the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans, replacing injured Ollie Millroy in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta next month. The team made the announcement heading into this past weekend’s TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The Spaniard is no stranger to the team, having shared an Inception McLaren 720S GT3 at the 2023 24 Hours of Spa alongside Brendan Iribe, Millroy and Frederik Schandorff.
Rueda arrives fresh off a season campaigning Ferrari GT3 machinery, currently competing for Kessel Racing in the European Le Mans Series. Rueda made his IMSA debut earlier this year, as part of Conquest Racing’s driver-line-up for IMSA’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen – also aboard a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, making him a natural fit to slot into Inception’s Ferrari for the ten-hour classic.
Joining Iribe and Schandorff, Rueda will aim to help the team secure the coveted Bob Akin Award at Road Atlanta – along with that all-important invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Iribe is provisionally second in these standings, 30 points behind leader Orey Fidani, leaving Indianapolis.
Rueda will step in for Inception Racing’s Michelin Endurance Cup driver, Millroy, who was absent from the Brickyard this weekend, as he continues his recovery in Shanghai following an on-track incident in another sports car race earlier in September. That being said, Millroy was discharged from hospital over the weekend.
The team are in regular contact with Ollie, and we are thrilled with the progress he is making each day. Ollie will return to the team as soon as he is ready; he will be very much missed this weekend at Indy and at Motul Petit Le Mans, and the entire team wishes him the speediest of recoveries.
